Learning Something New blog #9

As promised, I am back again to help you decide which cruise best fits you.  In the previous post we learned something new about the best cruises for romance and honeymooners, casino enthusiasts, sophiscated 40-somethings and action adventure seekers.  Now we will get to families with young kids, families with teens, the gourmet, and a few more.

Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are top of the line when it comes to families with young kids.  Babies and toddlers play on swings and bouncy chairs in the nursery while toilet trained and older kids have fun in the kids’ center or participating in activities like cookie-making, pizza parties, computer games and video-making. So that Disney is not the only kid favorite in town, Royal Caribbean has teamed up with Fisher Price to offer Aqua Babies and Aqua Tots programs for kids ages 6-36 months.

For families with teens, Royal Caribbean’s Freedom-class ships have teen only venues like their dance club with “mocktail” bar, a posh lounge, and private sun-bathing deck.  Kids ages 12-17 can learn to DJ with the onboard Scratch DJ Academy or spend their time in the large video arcade.

Gourmets will be learning something new on Oceania Cruises’ Insignia, Nautica and Regatta ships. Oceania has multiple restaurants inspired by Chef Jacques Pepin.  Meat lovers can dine in the Polo Grill Steakhouse and partake of its 32 ounce steaks. White-glove service and tasty treats await Gourmets in the Horizon Lounge.

Fitness enthusiasts will be learning something new every day of their Royal Caribbean Freedom class’s 12,000 square foot fitness facility.  This facility features top of the line cardio and weight training equipment, studios for Pilates, yoga, spinning, aerobics and circuit training.  There is also a boxing ring with punching bags, rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, sports court, and onboard surf simulator.  With all of this to do, the fitness enthusiasts won’t have to worry about leaving their workout behind.

Water lovers will be right at home on Windstar Cruises’ Wind Surf, Wind Star or Wind Spirit.  The Windstar ships include retractable, onboard marinas, and on Windstar’s Costa Rica cruises PADI instructors offer ship conducted diving trips and certification courses.

The Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Pearl has the Bliss Ultra Lounge for Night Owls to bowl while enjoying a trendy bar and dance club.  The lounge later converts to a late night hang out where cruisers can sip on drips while sitting on velvety lounge beds or bowl strikes while rock music plays and light flash.

Mature travelers can learn something new on Discovery’s MV Discovery. These cruises are destination focused and enrichment and learning are equally as important as the port of call.  The ship offers longer than average cruises to exotic locales.  Additionally, the ship never feels crowded onboard because it only carries 500-650 passengers even though it can accommodate more than 800.

There are a lot of other differences among the cruise lines, but above are some of the main ones.  The best way to learn which cruise fits your personality is simply to do it.  What is your cruise personality, and is there a particular cruise line that you feel fits you?
