How to Find a Last Minute Cruise Deal
 
In today's economy last minute cruise deals are even more in demand. But how do you go about getting one? One friend of mine called me one day incredibly upset because, tried as she could, she could not find a discount cruise. So what is the key?

First, decide your vacation dates and destination. The more flexible you are with your dates, the more likely you are to find a deal. Secondly, find out what is the off season for your particular destination. Last minute cruise deals are typically better off season when demand is low. Next, start with the more well known cruise lines, and get with a travel agent who can tell you about the type of travelers that each cruise line attracts and caters to. If you are looking to hang out with other singles but your cruise caters to vacationing families, deal or not, your vacation won't be nearly as enjoyable.
Lastly, when looking for last minute cruise deals, beware of lead in prices. Many cruise discounters advertise lower prices but when you click on them, there is "no more inventory" at that particular price. Also, do not wait until closer to the sail date in hopes that cruise lines will lower their prices. Prices depend on demand. If demand is high, cabins will fill fast and prices will not lower.
 
Another thing to remember when trying to find last minute cruise deals, is the initial price you see is only the base price.  Cruise lines add what they call noncomissionable fees (NCF's).  These fees are typically made up of taxes that ports impose on cruise ships.  NCF's are per person and will typically add another $100+ dollars to your cruise total.
 
Another thing to keep in mind is travel insurance.  Travel insurance IS NECESSARY. Therefore it will add to your cost.  Cruise lines will offer you travel insurance which is  more expensive without offering much coverage for your money.  Always get a quote from another reputable travel insurance company.
 
 
If you follow these simple guidelines, finding a last minute cruise deal won't be so painful.
